Tezos Betanet Launch — Prep Steps

It seems like years have passed since I participated in the Tezos ICO. After months of waiting, court cases, and delays, it appears we are close to launching of the Tezos Betanet!

For those not famililar in Tezos, they are building a platform for smart contracts and decentralized applications. You can read more about it on their site at https://tezos.com/.

For months we have been waiting for news on the launch of their beta network and it appears to be coming this month. Why do I say that?

First and foremost, Tezos themselves has said as such on May 29th and have built out a new system to check your contribution before the launch. It’s great to see Tezos doing everything they can to rebuild support and make this launch as successful as possible.

So, if you participated in their ICO, make sure that prior to the Betanet launch you need validate your contributions. It’s simple, and to do that you just need to do the following.

  1. access their contribution check site at https://check.tezos.com/
  2. enter your public key from the ICO. This was sent out in a PDF when you originally enrolled into the ICO. If you lost that PDF… you’re out of luck.

Once you check, you will be given a estimated token balance for the genesis block. Remember, once launched transactions on the Betanet will persist on the Mainnet once launched.

Finally, Tezos has some amazing ideas in the space and I really suggest you read the bakers article written by ArthurB. This article is a great in-depth breakdown of baking with Tezos. Baking is to Tezos what mining is to BitCoin. https://medium.com/tezos/its-a-baker-s-life-for-me-c214971201e1
